Masala chai with bun maska is a heavenly combination. This famous Indian chai or tea is brewed with a few whole spices and served with soft buns loaded with butter.

Masala chai is the perfect drink for a wintery cold morning or evening. Sipping a cup of piping hot chai can fix all your midweek blues. Not only does it refresh you but it also has a therapeutic effect on the body. It relieves pain, improves digestion, boosts immunity and also helps in weight loss. To make this spiced tea, boil water with a bunch of whole spices and tea leaves, brew this concoction for a few minutes then pour milk, cook for a minute or two. Turn the heat off. Place a strainer over the teacup and pour the chai into it. Serve and enjoy!

Bun maska or makkhan is a really simple snack that you can serve with masala chai. It is made with extremely soft bread, which is cut in half and a generous layer of butter is smeared on both sides. It is so easy to prepare yet tastes delicious and comforting.

Ingredients:

For masala chai:

  • 1 cup milk
  • 1.5 cup water
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 6 black peppercorn
  • ½ inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 cloves
  • ½ inch ginger
  • 1 tsp fennel seeds
  • 1.5 tbsp tea leaves
  • 2 tsp sugar

For bun maska:

  • 2 buns
  • 4 tbsp butter

Cooking Directions:

To make masala chai:

Add green cardamoms, peppercorns, cinnamon stick, cloves, ginger and fennel seeds into a mortar and pestle. Coarsely grind them.

Masala Chai with Bun Maska

Heat water in a saucepan over a high flame. Bring it to a boil and then add the crushed spices. Boil for 3 to 4 minutes.

Pour milk and sugar. Stir it well and continue to boil for 1 to 2 minutes. Turn the heat off.

Place a strainer over the teacup and pour the masala chai into it. Serve hot!

To make bun maska:

Cut the buns in half. Heat a non-stick pan over low heat. Toast them for a few minutes. Then apply a generous coat of butter on both the slices of the bun. Serve with masala chai and enjoy.
