Golden milk is also known as haldi doodh, turmeric milk or latte. It is a bright yellow coloured Indian beverage that has several health benefits. As the weather is changing, replace your tea or coffee with this healthy drink to protect yourself from cough, cold and flu.

What is golden milk?

Golden milk is an immunity-boosting drink that is made with milk, turmeric powder and a few other spices. As I said, it is also called haldi doodh, where haldi means turmeric and doodh and milk. For centuries, it has been a part of Ayurvedic medicine. But after the pandemic, it has become really popular all over the world. People are including this drink in their diet to improve their immunity and fight this infectious disease.

Benefits of Golden Milk:

  • Golden or turmeric milk is loaded with antioxidants that can fight diseases, infections and can prevent cell damage. It is the best home remedy for cough, cold and congestion.
  • The compound curcumin, present in turmeric, is rich in antibacterial and antifungal properties. This helps in strengthening our immune system.
  • Curcumin may also reduce symptoms of depression and improve mood.
  • Ginger, turmeric and cinnamon are rich in anti-inflammatory properties. This helps in reducing inflammation and joint pains.
  • Turmeric milk can also aid digestion. It can prevent many stomach issues.
  • It is rich in both calcium and vitamin D. This helps in improving bone health and prevents bone diseases.
  • Ingredients like cinnamon, turmeric and ginger which are present in this drink, can reduce the risk of cancer.
  • These three ingredients can also improve heart function and prevent heart diseases.
  • Golden milk can also help in improving memory and promotes brain functions.
  • Cinnamon and ginger can help in lowering blood sugar levels and improve insulin sensitivity.

Best time to drink golden milk:

You can drink it hot or warm, either in the morning or at night. But drinking a glass of turmeric milk at bedtime can induce better sleep and can improve hormonal balance.

Serves: 1 person

Ingredients:

  • 1.5 cup milk
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/4 tbsp ginger powder
  • 2 green cardamom
  • 1/2 inch cinnamon stick
  • 2 black peppercorn
  • 1/2 tbsp honey or sugar

Cooking Directions:

In a saucepan, pour milk and heat it over medium flame or temperature.

After it comes to a boil, lower the heat/flame. Add turmeric powder, ginger powder, green cardamom, cinnamon stick, black peppercorn and honey. Give it a stir.

Then again increase the heat/flame and bring it to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes. Turn the heat/flame off.

Remove the whole spice with the help of a spoon or strain the milk using a tea strainer.

Optional Step: Using a hand or electric whisk, beat the milk until it becomes frothy.

Pour in the serving glass and enjoy!

Ingredients
