Cranberry Whiskey Jello Shots (Vegan)

Jello or Jell-O shots are basically shots made with alcohol and popular gelatin called Jell-O. They are commonly made with vodka but you can actually use any alcohol of your choice. In this, the Jell-O powder is first dissolved in hot water and then the alcohol is added into it. Then this mixture is poured into shot glasses or plastic cups and refrigerated until they firm up.

But in this recipe, I have shared with you all a vegan jello or jelly shots recipe. Here I have made these shots without Jell-O or gelatin, as it’s derived from animals. And they are also made without water. I have substituted the gelatin with agar-agar powder, which is plant-based gelatin derived from seaweed.

The other two ingredients are cranberry juice and whiskey. I have used store-bought juice in this recipe but you can also use fresh juice if you like. It gives a beautiful sweet and sour taste to the jelly. You can also add a few drops of lemon juice to make it a little sourer. Or add sugar if you want to make it sweet. It’s totally up to you.

So if you want to make a boozy little treat for your New Year’s party, then give this recipe a try. It certainly won’t disappoint you.

Prep Time: 2 min | Cook Time: 4 min | Total Time: 6 min

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup cranberry juice
  • 1 ¼ tsp agar-agar powder
  • ½ cup whiskey
  • Dried or frozen cranberries, optional

Directions:

In a saucepan, add cranberry juice and agar-agar powder. Keep stirring until it has fully dissolved.

Heat it over a medium-low flame. Let it simmer for 2-3 minutes. Then turn the heat off. Allow the mixture to cool down a little. Because if you’ll add alcohol to the hot liquid then it might burn off.

Then pour whiskey and give it a good stir. Pour the mixture in shot glasses.

Add the dried cranberries when the top is around 50 per cent set. So that when you add the berries, they don’t sink to the bottom of the glass.
