How to make popcorns over the stovetop?

To make popcorn over the stovetop, take a heavy-bottomed saucepan. It will prevent the corns from burning. And if possible then take a large pan. That will prevent the popcorns from overflowing. But if you have a small saucepan then just add fewer popcorn kernels.

Then pour ghee/clarified butter into the saucepan and allow it to heat up. Ghee helps in adding a beautiful buttery aroma to the popcorns. But if you don’t have that, then use any oil of your choice. Just make sure it has a high smoke point.

Add the popcorn kernels, give them a stir. Cover it with a lid. Within a couple of seconds, the corns will start popping. For detailed instructions, read below.

How to melt white chocolate?

Double boiler method: Boil water in a saucepan. Add the chopped chocolate into a heatproof bowl. Place the bowl over the saucepan. Make sure the water doesn’t touch the bowl. Lower the flame and continuously stir the chocolate with a spatula. Once the chocolate melts with only a few bits left, turn the heat off and remove it from the saucepan. Keep stirring until it has melted completely and the texture is smooth.

Microwave Method: Add chopped chocolate to a microwave-safe bowl. Then microwave it for 20 seconds. Take it out and stir it well. If it has not melted completely then microwave it for another 20 seconds.

Here I have used a 900-Watt microwave. And it took around 40 seconds (20sec+20sec) to melt the chocolate completely. But every microwave is different. So be very careful, you don’t want to burn the chocolate.

Depending upon the wattage of your microwave, adjust the time. If your microwave has a higher wattage then you may lower the power to 50%. Then microwave it in small intervals.

How to store white chocolate popcorn?

If you want to store it, then pour them into an airtight container and place it in the refrigerator. You can easily store it for up to a week.

For the popcorn:
  • ¼ cup popcorn kernels
  • 1 tbsp ghee or clarified butter, melted
  • ½ tbsp sprinkles
For the melted chocolate:
  • ¾ cup (approx.) white chocolate, chopped (I have used – Morde White Compound)
  • 1 tsp ghee or clarified butter, melted
  • Pinch of salt

Directions:

To melt the white chocolate:

Take a small microwaveable bowl, add chopped white chocolate, ghee and salt.

Microwave it for 20 seconds. Then give it a good stir. Check if the chocolate has melted completely. If not, then microwave it again for another 20 seconds.

After that, the chocolate will become smooth and silky. Make sure you don’t overheat it. Otherwise, it might burn.

Keep it aside to cool down a little.

To make the popcorn:

Take a heavy-bottomed saucepan, heat it over a medium flame.

Then pour ghee or clarified butter and allow it to heat up.

Once it heats up, add the popcorn kernels. Give it a good stir. Make sure all the kernels are coated with ghee.

Place the lid over the saucepan and keep it ajar. This will allow the steam to escape. Then wait for them to start popping.

Once they start popping, lower the flame. Then give it a shake a few times.

When the popping slows down, turn the flame off. Wait for a few seconds and then open the lid.

To make the white chocolate popcorn:

Pour the freshly popped popcorns into a large bowl. Drizzle melted chocolate over it. Give it a good mix. Make sure the popcorns are fully coated with the white chocolate.

Then transfer the white chocolate popcorns to a large plate. If you like then you can line the plate with parchment paper but I didn’t do it. Spread the popcorns out on the plate.

Top the chocolate popcorns with sprinkles. You can be as generous as you like.

Place the plate in the refrigerator and let it sit for around 15 minutes. After which the chocolate will harden, then take it out, break them into small pieces and they will be ready to serve.

Then just pour them in a bowl and enjoy it while watching your favourite movie.
