Jhal Muri | Kolkata's Spicy Puffed Rice

Kolkata's Jhal Muri is a simple yet delicious snack. It is served as street food in Bengal. It's the perfect tea time snack for you and your family.

Ingredients
  

  • 3 cups puffed rice
  • 3 tbsp mustard oil
  • 1 tbsp cumin powder
  • 1 tsp chaat masala
  • 1 tsp black salt
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1/2 cup green peas boiled
  • 1 medium-sized tomato finely chopped
  • 1 medium-sized onion finely chopped
  • 1 medium-sized potato boiled and cut into cubes
  • 3 tbsp coriander leaves chopped
  • 2-3 green chillies finely chopped
  • 2-3 tbsp gram flour or besan papdi
  • 2 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup gram flour or besan sev

Instructions
 

  • Microwave puffed rice for a minute.
  • Add mustard oil and mix well.
  • Add cumin powder, chaat masala, black salt and red chilli powder. Give it a nice mix.
  • Then add green peas, tomato, onion, potato, coriander leaves, green chillies and besan papdi. Pour lemon juice and season with salt. Mix them together.
  • Add besan sev and stir it in. Avoid overmixing.
  • Serve immediately as it might get soggy.
