Chinese-Style Oats Khichdi Recipe

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups oats
  • 4 tsp garlic chopped
  • ½ cup onion chopped
  • ½ cup sweet corn
  • ½ cup capsicum chopped
  • 4 cups water
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 1 tsp black pepper freshly crushed
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp sesame seeds toasted
  • Toasted sesame seeds for garnishing
  • Salt to taste
  • A fried egg

Instructions
 

  • Heat a pan or pot over a medium flame. Pour oil and allow it to heat up.
  • Add chopped garlic. Cook until fragrant and its colour changes to golden.
  • Add chopped onion. Cook until it softens and the colour becomes translucent.
  • Add sweet corn and chopped capsicum. Give it a mix. Cook for 2 minutes.
  • Add oats. Give it a good mix.
  • Pour water, soy sauce, tomato ketchup, honey, black pepper and salt. Mix well.
  • Bring it to a boil. Cover with a lid.
  • Allow it to cook for 4-5 minutes or until the oats are cooked and the water has been absorbed.
  • Uncover and give it a stir. Check the consistency and seasoning.
  • Add sesame seeds. Mix well. Turn the flame off.
  • Transfer it to a serving plate. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top. Place a fried egg on the side.
  • Serve immediately!
