It requires only a few ingredients like plain oats, some veggies, soy sauce, ketchup, pepper etc. And within just a few minutes you can prepare a healthy, wholesome and comforting dish, which is great for breakfast, lunch or dinner!

In this savoury oatmeal recipe, I have used plain quick-cooking oats. You can use Quaker, Bagrry or Saffola.

Serves: 4 people

Ingredients:

2 cups oats

4 tsp garlic, chopped

½ cup onion, chopped

½ cup sweet corn

½ cup capsicum, chopped

4 cups water

1 tbsp soy sauce

2 tbsp tomato ketchup

2 tsp honey

1 tsp black pepper, freshly crushed

2 tbsp oil

1 tsp sesame seeds, toasted

Toasted sesame seeds, for garnishing

Salt to taste

A fried egg

Method:

Heat a pan or pot over medium flame. Pour oil and allow it to heat up.

Add chopped garlic. Cook until fragrant and its colour changes to golden.

Add chopped onion. Cook until it softens and the colour becomes translucent.

Add sweet corn and chopped capsicum. Give it a mix. Cook for 2 minutes.

Add oats. Give it a good mix.

Pour water, soy sauce, tomato ketchup, honey, black pepper and salt. Mix well.

Bring it to a boil. Cover with a lid.

Allow it to cook for 4-5 minutes or until the oats are cooked and the water has been absorbed.

Uncover it and give it a stir. Check the consistency and seasoning.

Add sesame seeds. Mix well. Turn the flame off.

Transfer it to a serving plate. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top. Place a fried egg on the side.

Serve immediately!
