Spicy Puffed Rice or Murmura Chaat | Indian Street Food
Puffed rice or murmura chaat is a lightly spiced savoury snack that is made with puffed rice, rice flakes, roasted split gram, mustard seeds, tomatoes, onions etc. It’s a quick and healthy snack that you can enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee.

If you love Indian street food then you’ll love this recipe. It is a great snack that you can eat at any time of the day. It just needs a few basic ingredients that are easily available in your pantry. To make this, lightly pan-fry puffed rice and rice flakes with a bunch of spices. Add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies etc. Drizzle lemon juice. This chaat is prepared without any green or tamarind chutney. Give everything a nice mix. Then serve it immediately.
Prep Time – 5 min | Cook Time – 5 min | Total Time – 10 min
Serves – 3 people
Ingredients:
- 2 cups puffed rice (murmura or muri)
- 1/2 cup fried rice flakes or flattened rice (poha or chivda)
- 2 tbsp roasted split gram or chana dal
- 2 tbsp fine sev
- 1 tsp curry leaves, chopped
- 1/2 tsp mustard seeds
- 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
- 1/2 cup onion, chopped
- 1/2 cup tomato, chopped
- 2 green chillies, chopped
- 2 tsp lemon juice
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt to taste

Cooking Directions:

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add curry leaves, mustard seeds, cumin, turmeric powder and red chilli powder. Mix and cook until fragrant. Turn the heat off.

Add puffed rice, rice flakes, roasted split gram, fine sev and salt. Mix well.

Pour it in a bowl and add chopped onions, tomatoes, green chillies and lemon juice. Mix well.

Instructions
